Sir Arthur Conan Doyle , the creator of Sherlock Holmes was an Ophthalmologist. Albert Einstein's eyes were removed by his ophthalmologist Dr. Henry Abrams during the autopsy in 1955 and stored . The eyes wereput up for auction in 1994. The term "Uvea"was first used by Galen, a Roman physician to include both the choroid and the iris because they resemble a grape from which the stalk had been torn out leaving a hole in front, the hole being the pupil of the eye. Lewis Carroll had episodes of micropsia during his migraine attacks which made him to conceive the idea of Alice seeing things smaller than they were.

Sushruta:The Father of Surgery

Sushruta was a renowned surgeon of ancient India - 6th century BC. He lived , taught and practiced his art on the banks of the Ganga in the present day city of Varanasi. He was a direct disciple of Divodasa who was in turn a disciple of Dhanvantari. He wrote Sushruta Samhita where he described 101 blunt instruments and 20 sharp instruments, which "should have an edge so fine that it should divide the hairs on the skin.", 300 surgical procedures and classifies human surgery into 8 categories. Because of his contributions to the medical science and art of surgery he is also known by the title "Father of Surgery." His technique of forehead flap rhinoplasty, that he used to reconstruct noses that were amputated, is practiced almost unchanged in technique to this day.
